.....since it's been nearly 4 months since I've posted anything!!!
It's been a little over 5 months since my mom passed away. My sisters and I finally found a day to go through all of her stuff. We got together last week and started the daunting task of dividing things up and deciding where things would go. After 7 hours, we still weren't done, so we had to plan another day.
We JUST finished going through all of her belongings on Monday....another 7 hours of sorting, choosing, deciding.....now I just have to find a place for everything that I kept.
Mom didn't have much....she lived in a nursing home for 6 years before she passed....so there wasn't a LOT of room for "extra" stuff.....it was only after her passing that we found out that she had been storing things in plastic storage containers and sending them with my grandpa (her dad) to store at his home! So she had a little more than we bargained for. I never thought it would take 14 hours to go through it all....but it did!
Her headstone has been set too. We got it ordered in May and it was finished and put in at the end of July. It looks beautiful. We had her picture put on the stone. I am SO glad we decided to do that.....now when I visit her grave, it feels like I'm actually talking to her....I can see her face and look at her smile.....not just the rectangle of grass that's still outlined by a gap in the dirt where they filled in the grave.
I think about her EVERY day.....
Not just once in awhile, or every couple days.....EVERY DAY! I miss her so much.
On a different note......
School starts in 4 days!!! I'm looking so forward to it! Getting the kids back on a regular schedule, getting to work more decent hours (I had been working 5:30 a.m. till 8:30 a.m. 4 days a week ALL summer)...and most of all, MORE HOURS which translates to MORE MONEY!!! I took a HUGE cut in hours when I started working mornings. I went from 22 to 26 hours per week to only 12 (or less some weeks)!! So getting back to my regular hours will help the wallet for sure!!!
Kylee tried out for the competition team at her dance studio.....AND MADE IT!! I was so proud of her....she had only been at this studio for one year, so I wasn't sure if she'd "have what it takes" to make the competition team....but she did! Now if I can just afford it all!!! UGH!! Thank goodness I'll be working more hours!! :o)
Joshua still isn't involved in any sports/activities. He's happy just hanging out, playing video games and playing outside! He's definitely my "home-body" kid.
Hubby still does the same old thing.....get up, go to work, come home, fall asleep in the recliner while "watching" the news, eat supper, read the paper, go to bed.....that pretty much sums it up!
We need to get out more....our lives are pretty boring.
OH, we are looking at getting a new camper next spring.....hubby says "We ARE going camping next summer!" (we have a camper and it's been nearly 4 years since we've gone camping!).....so I'll believe it when I see it!! LOL

Third Place! :o)
I'm so proud of my daughter and her softball team! They've only been a team for a few months (practicing) and they had never even played an actual game against another team until this weekend. They were in a tournament which involved 7 other teams in their age class.
The teams are divided into A, B & C brackets. "A" being the better, more experienced teams. "C" being the less experienced teams. They started out in the "C" bracket.
They lost their first game on Friday night.
They lost their second game on Saturday.
They WON their third game on Saturday. This somehow put us into the "A" bracket.
Today, they faced a team that was VERY good....and, unfortunately, they lost 8 to 1. BUT THEY GOT 3rd PLACE!!!! Out of 7 teams! I was so proud of them! They did awesome!

It's a scary word......CANCER
I never thought it would happen to someone close to me, let alone somone in my immediate family.
But that wretched word has become more than just a word. It has become reality.
I got the phone call on Thursday, February 9, 2012. My mom called to tell me that she had been taken to the emergency room with severe stomach pain.
After doing some tests and a cat scan, the doctor's determined it was colon cancer.
She was immediately transfered to a larger hospital in a nearby city.
The next day, a scope confirmed what the cat scan revealed. It was indeed colon cancer.
I went to see mom on Friday evening and she told my sister and I that they had caught it early......thank God. Her treatment would be surgery to remove the tumor and hopefully have a full recovery.
Mom went into surgery at about 3:00 yesterday afternoon. I was unable to be with her due to work, but my sisters, an Aunt and Uncle and my Grandpa (mom's dad) were all there for her.
I started typing this on Monday evening, about the time her surgery was being completed....and as I was typing, I got a phone call from my youngest sister.....she started with "the surgery went good, they were able to remove 98% of the tumor.....but the prognosis isn't good", and she started crying, trying to tell me what the surgeon had told all of them....and then I was crying....trying to absorb all that she was telling me.
I got off the phone, talked to my husband and explained what he needed to do to get the kids where they needed to go and what time and then I headed out. It's about a 40 minute drive, but I couldn't just stay home. I had to see her.
Turns out the doctor that told mom that they had caught it early was sorely mistaken....she had had the tumor for 3 to 5 years. It was the size of a softball. The reason they weren't able to get all of it was because it had invaded other areas of her lower abdomen. Without removing the actual organs/parts, there was no way to remove the remainder of the tumor.
The tumor and several tissue samples were sent to be tested. Pathology reports won't be back for 4 to 7 days. So we won't know the full scope of things till those tests come back.
She has a colostomy bag....it will most likely be permanent. I, unfortunately, got to see it up close and personal.
Not a pretty sight. Pretty gross actually. Not sure why the nurse pointed out her intestines that were visible through the bag, but she made sure that I saw them. I was slightly nauseated at that point.
They had to keep her intubated after surgery because she was having trouble breathing on her own. They had her arms restrained to keep her from pulling the ventilator tube out. She was so "out of it" that she kept trying to fight the restraints, even though we had told her why they were on and that she needed to just relax and breathe. She'd relax for a few minutes and then open her eyes again and have a look of confusion as to why she couldn't move her arms more than a couple inches. So we'd have to explain it all over again.
It was so difficult to stand there and not be able to help her. She mouthed the words "gagging me". The tube was gagging her and she wanted it out. But there were several steps that had to be taken in order for it to be removed. They were basically trying to ween her off the ventilator. Then they had to take a blood sample and test it for levels of oxygen and CO2. If the numbers were good, then they'd be able to take it out. Unfortunately, all of this takes time and she was being very impatient. Understandably.
My sister and I had to head home so we could get our kids to bed, so we headed out at about 8:45 p.m. My sister called me around 10:00 p.m. and said that the nurse had called her and told her that about an hour after we left, they were able to remove the ventilator tube.
Mom's surgeon was going to be talking with her today to let her know what happened during her surgery and what to expect. I'm sure it didn't go over very well with her. I wished I could've been there for her. Damn work!

Our Trip to SanDiego-Very pic heavy!
We took advantage of my husbands business trip recently to take a vacation to SanDiego....he had to do some business, but mostly we "vacationed"! :o)
Getting some breakfast at the airport....notice the Mountain Dew....it was necesary to keep our eyes open!!We had a 7:00 a.m. flight, so we were there at 5:00 a.m. (cuz they say to be at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight)....it was a 2 hour drive from where we live to the airport, so, needless to say, we didn't get much sleep the "night" before....we had to leave home by 3:00 a.m., so I was up by 1:30 a.m., then got the kids up at about 2:00 a.m....I had just went to bed at 10:30 p.m., so I got a whole 2 1/2 hours of sleep!
We all made it through security....whshew! Now we're just waiting...patiently...for the flight to board.

One of the super loooooong hallways in the hotel....this hotel was HUGE...and required a TON of walking to get from one point to another.
This was the view from our hotel room....we were on the 19th floor of, I think, 25 floors.
The view from our room..the tall building is a condominium....and the ship in the background is the USS Midway. It was used by the Navy for 47 years before being retired and turned into a museum. For part of the business end of our trip, they had a banquet on the deck of the ship.
It was so awesome....but soooo cold!!!

The next day, we went on sightseeing tour. An hour of the tour was spent on a boat touring the harbor....ufortunately, it was very hazy that day, but I still got some awesome pictures. This is the kids and I with a navy ship coming in to port behind us.

The next day, we went to Sea World...this is the Seal and Otter show. We were clear at the top of the seating area, so my pictures didn't turn out too good.
Then we went to the Dolphin Adventure show....this was THE most awesome show of the whole day....even beat out the Shamu Show...I even had tears in my eyes at one point during this show, it was so darn good!

The kids and I decided to brave a ride that clearly stated
"You WILL get wet on this ride, possibly SOAKED!"
Hubby stayed on dry land and thought it would be funny to take pictures of our suffering.
The water was soooo COLD that every time it hit me, it took my breath away...literally!
This was the Shamu Show....an awesome show, but it didn't quite beat the Dolphin Show...plus we got SOAKED during this show....we chose to sit in the Soak Zone, but 3/4 through the show, we still hadn't gotten splashed.....so I had let my guard down.....bad move! One of the whales swam over to our area and jumped and splashed our area and we got SOAKED...and so did my camera! I was so worried that it was going to be ruined, but it still works...thank goodness!
The next day, we got a taxi ride to Mission Beach....I had never seen the ocean in person before, so this was my first LIVE ocean experience....it was AWESOME....the sight of it was cool, but the sound was what got me....I never realized how LOUD it was.....then I was walking along the beach and saw this seaweed...so I HAD to take a picture of it...I never realized how tough seaweed was...I guess it'd have to be to survive in the ocean.
Here we are trying to find un-broken seashells....that was NOT an easy task...most of the shells were broken in one way or another. We found some really neat ones though.
If you look real close, there's a surfer in the very last wave toward the center of the picture....these people were NUTS!! LOL That water was FREEZING COLD!!
The crazy seagulls....these things would basically attack anyone that came on the beach with food in their hands. These poor girls that had brought a piece of pizza onto the beach were just bombarded by the seagulls....they finally dodged them long enough to finish their pizza....it was pretty hilarious watching them though...LOL.
This is us on the "boardwalk" on Mission Beach...notice how happy my son is? He actually hated the beach...he wanted nothing to do with it. He did like chasing the birds, but that got old too fast and he wanted to leave waaay before we were ready to go. Not to mention, he hates having his picture taken too.
Our last day in SanDiego, we rented a car and drove up to Carlsbad, CA and went to LegoLand!

The Volvo driving range....if you drove the course successfully, you got to get a "driver's license" (for a mere $5.00 each)....thank goodness they're not real....notice how wild they're driving? LOL

New to LegoLand is the Sea Life Aquarium....most of pictures didn't turn out too good because it was so dark in the aquarium. This was at the end of the "tour".
Back in LegoLand....Aaarrgh! It's Pirate Lego Man...the kids were excited to pose with him....we were lucky to get this picture...the lady walking with him was telling everyone he needed to leave and she said we could be the last one's to get to take a picture with him!
Leaving LegoLand....I forgot to take this picture on our way in, so I thought I'd better snap the picture on our way out...that's why it's so dark.....bye, bye LegoLand!
The next day we flew out of SanDiego at 10:00 a.m.....after stopping for supper, we got back home around 10:00 p.m. and were exhausted! Unfortunately the kids had to go to school the next day and hubby and I both had to work, so we were all a little tired the next day, but we made it.
I told my hubby, I could definitely live in SanDiego....it was a very beautiful city and the weather was pretty good too! :o)

I feel so stupid!! LOL
I feel like such an idiot!
I was trying to demonstrate to my husband how a player caught the ball in a football game that we were watching (he missed the play)......
in the process of said demonstration, I lost my balance.....
and fell flat on my butt!
It all happened so fast, I don't even really remember how I went down....
but apparently I tried to catch myself as I fell, cuz my right wrist hurts.
My husband asked if I was o.k. and I told him "yes", but about an hour later, I started to feel it.
My back hurts....
My butt hurts.....
I'm sooooooo out of shape and getting old!!! LOL
This solidifies my decision to lose weight this year and get in shape!!
